The Constitutional Court’s (MK) ruling on the age limit continues to be exploited by hoax producers. Rumors have circulated claiming that the police have supposedly arrested nine MK judges and named them as suspects, alleging that the police have found evidence of a fatal wrongdoing.
“Shocking, MK judges committed a criminal violation,” wrote the Facebook account Daily Qinan. The account is known for frequently spreading disinformation about various events, including after the MK ruling that was claimed to favor one particular candidate.
“Shocking. 9 MK judges suspects? Police find evidence of fatal error,” read the text on the cover photo. The cover image shows nine people standing with their backs turned, as if they were MK judges accused of committing a major wrongdoing.
Although the cover photo states it is merely an illustration, the information is deliberately constructed to suggest that the police have officially named nine MK judges as suspects.
However, upon closely examining the photo—especially when zoomed in—between the men in orange outfits, there are objects resembling engine oil containers. Based on further investigation, the photo is clearly unrelated to the MK. It actually depicts the exposure of a fake engine oil manufacturing case.
Several identical photos were uploaded by credible news portals. One of them is a photo report by liputan6.com published on June 8, 2023. The headline reads: Bareskrim Police Headquarters Uncover Fake Oil Producers in East Java, Five People Arrested.
It states that the Directorate of Certain Crimes (Dittipidter) of the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) arrested a ring of fake oil producers in East Java, operating since 2020, with a monthly turnover of about Rp20 billion. Police seized evidence and five suspects identified as AH, AK, FN, AL alias TOM, and AW. (s.id/SoalOliPalsu).
Meanwhile, the news read by the narrator does not mention any designation—let alone arrest—of nine MK judges. The content cites a mistar.id report titled: MKMK Ruling: 9 MK Judges Reported to Bareskrim.
The Director of General Crimes at Bareskrim, Brig. Gen. Djuhandhani Rahardjo Puro, stated that the report was based on the ruling of the Constitutional Court’s Honor Council (MKMK). However, the report did not have preliminary evidence to support allegations regarding the reported issue, and the police recommended filing a public complaint (dumas). (s.id/YangDibaca).
Fact
There is no official statement declaring any of the nine MK judges as suspects.
