Recently, information has been circulating on social media alleging a new regulation regarding Police Clearance Certificates (SKCK). According to this information, SKCKs can now only be used for a single purpose, such as applying for a job at a specific company. This has caused confusion and concern among the public, especially those seeking employment or processing other documents that require an SKCK.
However, is it true that there is a new regulation stating that SKCKs can only be used once? FactMeter will investigate the facts related to this information further to provide clarification to the public.
What is an SKCK?
As reported by Kompas.com, a Police Clearance Certificate (SKCK) is an official document issued by the Indonesian National Police (Polri) through regional units, such as Polsek (Sector Police), Polres (Regional Police), Polda (Regional Police), or Mabes Polri (National Police Headquarters). SKCKs are used for various administrative purposes, such as job applications, educational registration, visa processing, and other matters requiring confirmation that the applicant has no criminal record. In general, an SKCK is valid for six months from the date of issuance and can be extended if necessary. In practice, an SKCK is often requested by certain institutions to ensure that an individual does not have a criminal history that could affect their credibility or reputation.
The SKCK’s functions are diverse and depend on the applicant’s needs. This document can be used for job applications at private companies and government agencies, for school or university admissions, and for obtaining visas or residence permits abroad. Therefore, its flexibility is an important factor for many people, especially those seeking employment or handling other administrative matters.
However, with information circulating regarding a new regulation that an SKCK can only be used for one purpose, many people are confused and worried. Is it true that an SKCK is now only valid for one specific purpose, or is this simply a misunderstanding among the public?
Claims Regarding New SKCK Regulations
Recently, social media has been abuzz with claims that an SKCK can only be used for one purpose. Several viral posts allege a “new regulation” that requires an SKCK to be used only for one specific purpose, such as applying for a job at a specific company. This information has caused confusion among the public, especially those actively seeking work.
One example of this claim comes from a Twitter post by the account @cokoreo28, who shared his experience applying for a Police Clearance Certificate (SKCK). As reported by sabipeeps and folkshitt, in his post, he complained that police officers said the new regulation requires that one SKCK can only be used for one purpose. This made it difficult for him to have to apply for a new SKCK every time he wanted to apply for a job at a different company.
The post appeared on August 14, 2024, and has received 1.1K likes. According to the Tirto Research Team, the website displays a registration form that requests a number of personal data, including full name, age, gender, and a telephone number with an active Telegram account. The website uses inconsistent language; the telephone number section uses English, while other fields are in Indonesian. Furthermore, a typo was found in the age field, such as, “makan umur anda.”
What are the facts?
Further investigation revealed no new regulations stating that Police Clearance Certificates (SKCKs) can only be used for one specific purpose. Explanations from the police and other official sources revealed that the information circulating on social media was not entirely accurate.
As quoted by Kompas.com, according to Bripka Marini, an officer at the Surakarta Police SKCK Service Unit, Central Java, the information on an SKCK depends heavily on the needs of the applicant and the agency they are applying to. There are no new regulations explicitly limiting SKCKs to just one purpose. “SKCKs are created according to need. We ask the applicant, ‘Where are you going, what information do you want written?'” Marini explained.
Furthermore, Marini explained that some agencies or companies may request that their specific names be written on the SKCK information. For example, when registering as a Civil Servant Candidate (CPNS) or for certain educational programs, the SKCK will be labeled with specific information such as “Applying for CPNS Selection” or “PPG Registration.” However, if a company or agency does not require a specific purpose, the information can be more general, such as “Job Application.”
The article from Tirto.id also confirms that there is no official National Police policy restricting the use of SKCKs to a single purpose. SKCK use is flexible and tailored to the applicant’s needs. There are no new regulations requiring SKCKs to be used for a single purpose.
Therefore, the claim that SKCKs can only be used for one purpose is false. The public can still use SKCKs as needed, as long as the agency or company in question does not have specific provisions that differ.
Conclusion
Based on research from various official sources, there are no new regulations restricting the use of SKCKs to a single purpose. Information circulating on social media regarding SKCKs being used for only one purpose, such as applying for a job at a specific company, is incorrect. The information written on the SKCK still depends on the applicant’s needs and the policies of the agency requesting the document.
The public is advised to be cautious about unverified information and to always refer to official sources, such as the National Police website or contact the relevant police department directly, for accurate information regarding SKCKs. This way, we can avoid confusion and unnecessary action.
