Footage of the vice presidential debate is still circulating on social media. Recently, a post appeared claiming that President Joko Widodo watched the debate live. “Mr. Jokowi Proud to Watch the 2024 Vice Presidential Debate. Gibran (Persistent and Brave)” reads the caption of the video uploaded by the TikTok account Ricards999 a few days ago.
The 1-minute-2-second video shows a man watching the vice presidential debate. From behind, the man’s hairstyle reveals a figure identical to President Jokowi (s.id/JkwNontonDebat).
At first glance, there seems to be nothing wrong with the information. Specifically, it’s a video recording of the debate session between vice presidential candidates Muhaimin Iskandar, Mahfud MD, and Gibran Rakabuming Raka. But is it true that Jokowi watched the debate in the post?
A search has shown that the video has been digitally manipulated. In May 2023, the news portal Detik uploaded the same image as the TikTok account Ricards999. A similar video appeared in the opening minutes. The most striking resemblance was the color of Jokowi’s shirt and his sitting position.
The review was titled “Jokowi Uploads Moment Watching the Indonesian National Team from Mayor Bobby’s Official Residence.” It explained that President Jokowi uploaded a moment while watching the 2023 SEA Games football final in Cambodia. Jokowi watched the Indonesian national team’s match against Thailand from the official residence of Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution.
In the post, Jokowi is seen sitting in a chair watching the television. The uploaded moment is a photo, not a video. Therefore, it is clear that the debate broadcast in the post is staged (s.id/TontonTimnas).
