Old videos are highly susceptible to misinformation, especially regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. They claim that Israeli soldiers arrested children who recited the Shahada before being killed.
“Israeli soldiers arrested children, and before being killed, one of them recited ‘Laa ila ha illa Allah wa Muhammadur rasulullah’.” That’s the caption on the first slide. The video was uploaded by the Instagram account @Semangal453 on Wednesday (November 29) (s.id/AnakPlstn).
The second slide shows a video of a person being strangled by a man wearing a vest resembling a police uniform. However, the uniform does not appear to belong to Israeli officers. The third slide shows Israeli officers in light and dark gray uniforms.
It is true and common knowledge that Israeli soldiers and police arrest Palestinian children. As evidence, Al Jazeera reports, an estimated 500-1,000 children are held in Israeli military detention each year. A study found that 86 percent of the 228 former child detainees surveyed were beaten in detention. Furthermore, 69 percent were strip-searched, and 42 percent were injured during arrest, including gunshot wounds and broken bones (s.id/KasusAnak).
Regarding the second slideshow, the image comparison clearly has no connection to Palestine or Israel. The photo was uploaded by thelocal.se on February 17, 2015. The video’s title read, “Missing Malmö boys both safe in Denmark.” The man on top of the child was not an Israeli soldier, but a security guard at a Swedish train station.
Local newspaper Sydsvenskan obtained a video showing one of the guards pushing a 9-year-old boy to the ground. The guard then sat on top of him and covered the boy’s mouth with his hand. The boy can be heard reciting the shahada (the Islamic declaration of faith). (s.id/SatpamSwedia).
